Vania Bynum
Bio
Vania C. Bynum is an engineer whose love of the arts led her to pursue a career in dance. A graduate of Cornish College of the Arts, Vania is an emerging dancer & choreographer who has worked with distinguished artists such as Donald Byrd, Sonia Dawkins, Wade Madsen, Michele Miller, Kabby Mitchell, Deborah Wolf, Cheronne Wong, and Duane George. Vania has performed many genres of dance such as Modern, Jazz, Salsa, Swing, Hip Hop, Afro-Caribbean, and Liturgical dance. Venues include the Paramount & Moore Theaters, Intiman, Benaroya Hall, Meydenbauer Center, the Renton Ikea Performing Arts Center, the Tacoma Dome, and local churches. In addition to her solo and group creations, Vania works in the community choreographing for the NBCF Adult Liturgical Dance Ministry, the Hal Jackson Talented teens scholarship program, and the Eastside Lyric Opera. In 2005, Vania founded Arts for the Greater Good, an organization dedicated to using the arts (music, dance, and spoken word) to benefit our community. Her first benefit, in partnership with Allied Arts Foundation and a Microsoft community organization, raised over $13,000 for victims of Hurricane Katrina. In addition to arts production experience, Vania works in Arts Administration at the ACT Theatre and teaches at the Ballet Bellevue School.

Through dance, music, and drama, Excerpts from the Soul of a Woman explores the struggles that women face as well as the triumphs and beauties of being a woman. It will remind us that we have the courage to acknowledge our struggles and the inner strength to make positive change.
With themes ranging from displacement and dependence, to hope and love, the message of this multidisciplinary work is geared to women of all nationalities, races, and socioeconomic levels; however, the intended audience is EVERY person whose life is affected by a woman. Increasing the awareness of concerns that affect women essentially affects us all. Excerpts from the Soul of a Woman offers the unique opportunity to encourage and empower women from all backgrounds, educate our community about dilemmas that women face, as well as celebrate and honor our existence.
